Example: Controls Engineer
Overview
ACE is seeking a Controls Engineer to design, program, and commission PLC and robot-based automation systems. You'll work directly with mechanical engineers and project managers to deliver turnkey solutions for our customers across automotive, defense, and industrial markets.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop PLC programs (Allen Bradley, Siemens) for automated assembly, test, and material handling systems
- Program and integrate FANUC robots including path programming, I/O configuration, and vision systems
- Develop HMI interfaces for operator control and diagnostics
- Design electrical schematics and panel layouts
- Perform on-site installation, debug, and commissioning at customer facilities
- Collaborate with mechanical engineering on system design and integration
- Support customers with remote diagnostics and troubleshooting
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or related field
- 3+ years of experience with PLC programming (Allen Bradley RSLogix/Studio 5000 preferred)
- Experience with industrial robot programming (FANUC preferred)
- Proficiency in electrical schematic design (AutoCAD Electrical or EPLAN)
- Understanding of industrial safety standards and safety PLC programming
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
- Ability to travel to customer sites for installation and commissioning (up to 25%)
Preferred
- Experience with Ethernet IP, DeviceNet, or other industrial communication protocols
- Machine vision system experience (Cognex, Keyence)
- Servo motion control experience
- SQL or database integration for data collection and traceability
Example: Mechanical Engineer
Overview
ACE is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to design custom automation equipment from concept through production. You'll design machine bases, fixtures, tooling, guarding, and conveyors for robotic and automated systems serving a wide range of industries.
Responsibilities
- Design machine assemblies, fixtures, and tooling using SolidWorks or equivalent 3D CAD
- Create detailed drawings and BOMs for fabrication and assembly
- Perform design calculations for structural, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems
- Collaborate with controls engineers on system integration and layout
- Support fabrication and assembly teams during the build process
- Participate in customer design reviews and concept presentations
- Assist with on-site installation and equipment run-off
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- 3+ years of experience designing custom machinery or automation equipment
- Proficiency in SolidWorks or equivalent 3D CAD software
- Experience with GD&T and manufacturing tolerances
- Knowledge of pneumatic, hydraulic, and servo-driven motion systems
- Strong understanding of materials and manufacturing processes (machining, welding, fabrication)
- Ability to travel to customer sites (up to 15%)
Preferred
- Experience with FANUC or other robotic systems
- FEA or simulation experience
- Familiarity with industrial safety standards (ANSI, OSHA, CE)
- Experience with conveyor design and integration
